To mark 30 years of EU Cohesion Policy Euronews hosted a live debate on the successes and challenges of the project.

The event 'Cohesion policy – 30 years of success, past, and future’ will look at what Cohesion Policy has achieved over the past 30 years and how it can help the EU provide answers to current and future challenges.

What is Cohesion Policy?

You might not hear the term ‘Cohesion policy’ very often. But Cohesion Policy is the EU's main investment policy. It targets all regions and cities in the European Union to support economic growth, sustainable development, job creation, business competitiveness, and improve citizens' quality of life.

Potential beneficiaries include public bodies, enterprises (especially SMEs), universities, associations, NGOs and voluntary organisations.

Why should you watch?

The debate will review how Cohesion Policy has accompanied the evolutions of the Union, from the creation of the single market, to enlargements and the migration crisis. It will also explore how Cohesion Policy could be designed in the future to enable the EU to harness globalisation, foster prosperous economies, caring societies and sustainable growth, through innovation and skills.

Who is taking part?

Moderated by Euronews' Oleksandra Vakulina, the event will bring together several experts to the discussion, among them: European Commissioner, Corina Creţu; Portugal's Prime Minister Antonio Costa´; European Parliament President, Antonio Tajani; Committee of the Regions President, Karl-Heinz Lambertz; and Former Commissioners Michel Barnier and Danuta Huebner.

The debate will also have various video interventions, amid the President of the European Commission, Claude Juncker.
