Inside the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton, stage construction and other preparations are also underway.

For Meyers and his writers, this year’s challenge is preparing a monologue that strikes the right balance between humour and the numerous recent allegations of sexual harassment and abuse of the industry’s power brokers

“You want to address it, but you also want to remind people that despite all that awful stuff that happened, this was a great year for film and television,” says Meyers.

“A great year for women in movies and television, and you want to make sure you celebrate that as well because ultimately, they persevered through everything to make the work that we’re going to talk about. “

“We want to make sure it’s not so serious to the point that it isn’t a celebration, which is the point of the night.”

Meanwhile, Hollywood stylists have been scrambling to get red carpet frocks ready for Sunday’s glitzy ceremony.

Actresses like Sally Hawkins, who is is nominated for a Golden Globe for her non-speaking lead role in Guillermo del Toro’s fable “The Shape of Water have said they will wear black to show support for the women who are bringing forward sexual harassment complaints in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.
