The trial has begun in London of a 40-year-old man accused of poisoning and killing four young men in their 20s before dumping their bodies in and around a churchyard in the east of the capital.

He allegedly met the men on gay chatsites before luring them back to his house, when he gave them the date rape drug GBH and had sex with them while unconscious.
Stephen Port allegedly killed the men over a 14-month period, attempting to conceal two of the deaths by forging a suicide note found on one of the victims. His parents have expressed their total shock and are convinced of his innocence.
The Metropolitan Police has come in for criticism for its slowness to act and link all four deaths to a serial killer. The case has been referred to the independent police watchdog.
The case also highlights the ever-present risks for people using the internet for sexual encounters.
