Manchester City will be without Sergio Aguero for their Champion League group stage opener with Juventus on Tuesday.

The Argentine suffered a knee injury during the club’s premier league victory over Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Wilfried Bony is expected to deputise for Aguero

Raheem Sterling has recovered from a hamstring problem and is available, as is playmaker David Silva following an ankle injury.

Juventus will look to get their season back on track following a poor start to the defence of their Serie A title, although they come across a City side in a rich vein of form leading the Premier League with a perfect record from their five opening games so far.

Midfielder Claudio Marchisio will miss the trip to Etihad Stadium after the Italy international suffered an injury to his left abductor at the weekend.

Sami Khedira and Kwadwo Asamoah are also out injured.

Also on Tuesday in Group D, Europa League winners Sevilla host Borussia Moenchengladbach, who are in European Cup action for first time since 1978.

In Group A ten-times champions Real Madrid kick off against Shakhtar Donetsk while Zlatan Ibrahimovic has recovered in time from an abdominal injury as PSG host his first club Malmö.

After a year out Manchester United return to Europe with a trip to PSV Eindhoven – Wayne Rooney is absent as he recovers from a thigh strain. Also in Group B Wolfsburg host CSKA Moscow.

Astana are the first Kazakh side in the group stage and will begin with long trip to face Benfica in Group C while last season’s quarter-finalist Atletico Madrid meet Turkish champs Galatasaray.
