In Philadelphia, the parade was held in front of the building where the Declaration of Independence was signed.

A replica of the French warship that went to offer help to the American colonists in their war of independence has retraced the journey across the Atlantic.The Hermione docked in New York City.
The vessel’s namesake made the original crossing in 1780 to let George Washington know that France was prepared to send military support.

But the biggest party took place in Washington DC.Hundreds of thousands turned up to hear live music and see fireworks light up the sky over the National Mall.
