Police in the Peruvian capital Lima clashed with residents during the eviction of thousands who had illegally occupied a cemetery which dates from the pre-Inca era.
Police in riot gear and on horseback fired tear gas during the incident in their attempt to disperse the 2,000 strong crowd who had taken over Tablada de Lurin, an archaeological zone owned by the state.
The 2,000 old cemetery is considered important by indigenous people in terms of their culture and history.
Residents, including families with young children, had set up makeshift homes in the area.
