Republican Senator Ted Cruz has announced he is in the race to contest the 2016 US presidential election.

In so doing he becomes the first Republican to officially declare his interest.

Curz reached a wider audience when he delivered a 21-hour Senate speech opposing President Obama’s healthcare changes in 2013.

The Texas Senator is the Tea Party’s cup of tea.

More Republicans interested in fighting for the nomination are expected to throw their hats into the ring later this week.

One of those is Jeb Bush a man not unfamiliar with the inner workings of the White House.

Bush is currently favourite to represent the Republicans in 2016.

Another man expected to run is Florida Senator Marco Rubio who was elected to the Senate in
2011.
