A Virgin Atlantic passenger plane has touched down safely at London’s Gatwick airport on Monday after a landing gear fault forced the US-bound plane to turn around.

“Flight VS43 has returned to London Gatwick due to a technical issue with one of the landing gears,” Virgin Atlantic said in a statement.

Virgin Atlantic can confirm that flight VS43 has landed safely back at Gatwick. Our priority now is to look after our passengers and crew.

A spokesperson says the passengers will be taken off the airplane and the craft will be checked as a matter of routine.
