Lankaran, a fertile region along Azerbaijan’s southern coast, is gaining attention for its abundant orchards, subtropical climate and untouched forests, a landscape locals proudly call the country’s “fruit basket.”

Lankaran’s subtropical climate makes it one of Azerbaijan’s most abundant fruit-growing regions.

At Citrus Valley Plantation, visitors can stroll through bright orchards, picking mandarins, lemons and fragrant feijoa straight from the trees. A hands-on marmalade class shows how kiwi preserves are cooked slowly over a wood fire, a local tradition passed down through generations.

In the Talish mountains, ancient forests, misty paths and remote villages like Sim reveal a way of life shaped by nature, where residents farm, keep bees and welcome travellers with warm hospitality and freshly brewed black tea.
