Twitter’s share price has fallen nearly 50 percent since Dorsey’s return last year amid concern it has failed to significantly boost its user base of just over 300 million. It was surpassed by photo-sharing app Instagram last year.

Reportedly Twitter is to name two new board members soon, along with other management changes.

In October, Dorsey had spoken about “hiring and investing in talent” and the need for “bold rethinking.”

Since his return, had has launched Moments which showcases Twitter’s best tweets and content and laid off 300 workers.

On Sunday night Jason Toff, who heads Twitter’s video streaming service, Vine, tweeted that he was also leaving Twitter to join Google to work on virtual reality.

Personal update! I'm joining Google to work on VR. So much exciting potential there.
