The trial of Cardinal Philippe Barbarin is on its third day; the first saw the Archbishop of Lyon himself speak at length, the second was for the alleged victims of the priest for whom Barbarin is accused of covering up, and the third will be for the lawyers. It's a tense time for the Catholic Church in yet another country, yet another diocese as fingers point at clergy for not only committing horrific abuse offenses, but also protecting the ones who did so.
In 2002, the Boston Globe's Spotlight team broke a shocking story of abuse and cover-up in the city's Catholic community. The research and publication of the articles was the subject of Oscar-winning film "Spotlight".
