Rishtan, a small town in the south of Uzbekistan’s Fergana Valley, is described as one of Central Asia’s most significant centres of ceramic production.

Euronews visited the workshop of ceramics master Rustam Usmanov, one of the places where tourists visit when they want to discover more about Rishtan’s unique pottery methods.

Usmanov is the only ceramics maker in Rishtan who gained a special education at the Tashkent Institute of Theatrical Arts, in the department of industrial drawing.

Upon graduation he returned to Rishtan and continued his education as a student of two well-known ceramic masters. His son, Damir, and a nephew are also workers at the factory.

Check out this slideshow of some of the work that can be found in the Rustam Usmanov workshop.
