The Portes du Soleil region is branching out into all-year-round activities. Benoit Cloirec, the coordinator of the project, identifies its strong points.

"The routes are indeed free," he says. "Accessible to all. Afterwards, in certain trail circuits, you can use the ski lifts. We are fortunate in that in a previous Interreg programme, in the 2000s, we set up Multi-Pass, a product which allows you to have access to a certain number of services, and in particular the ski lifts, at a rate of €2 per day.

"In this project, we find trail riding, electrically-assisted mountain biking, but also something which is a little less perceptible to the client: it is an observatory, a Flora and Fauna Observatory which allows us to assess... What can we do to improve the summer season? But above all, what shouldn't do to avoid destroying the ecosystem? Well, thanks to the Observatory we take this into account… like 'Be careful, there's a protected species there, we can't go there or we mustn't take the client there.'"
