Europe’s future lies in a digital economy

But the continent faces a skill shortage.

Or so says the European Commission.

It believes by 2020 half a million jobs will be unfilled, due to a lack of trained staff.

Better training is the answer.

“Next year we will launch a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects) coalition at (the) European level, including stakeholders national authorities but also education institutions,” said Tibor Navracsics, the EU commissioner for education.

“And we are working together with the Member States to lay the foundations of a closer strong cooperation in Stem education.”

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Decision makers and entrepreneurs came together for a ‘Makers Town event in Brussels on the 20th of June.

The goal was to encourage EU leaders to make the digital economy a top priority.

This video was produced in partnership with Think Young, a think-tank that focuses on youth policy worldwide.
