In recent years, there has been a rise of nationalism and far rights parties in the EU, especially in the North and east of Europe. Euronews spoke to two experts to get their analysis.

Dave Sinardet, Political expert, Vrije Universiteit Brussel: “In many European countries, there is a part of the public opinion which is quite favorable to the views of the far right parties, especially regarding security, immigration. This was the case in the past and these themes are strongly back in the news: refugees and the terrorist threat, even if they are two different themes, but which are often linked in the speech of these parties ; now that those themes are current, the voters tend to return to those parties.”

Pascal Delwit, Political expert, Université Libre de Bruxelles: “One of the reasons that brings the far right vote is anxiety. It is clear that the economic situation since the financial and social crisis, even the moral crisis of 2008, have created much more anxiety in much wider parts of the population and therefore it is necessary to reflect on how we face this crisis. “
