After five months of deadlock, a solution to the Greek debt crisis will be presented to European leaders this week, European Council President Donald Tusk told reporters on Monday evening.

Tusk was joined at the press conference by European Commission President Jean-Claude Junker.

“I’m convinced that we come to a final agreement in the course of this week, for the simple reason that we have to find an agreement this week. We cannot play, as they say on the football fields, we cannot play a prolongation.”

Greek officials came to an emergency summit in Brussels on Monday with new proposals for a cash-for reform deal. The package includes new taxes on business and the wealthy and additional VAT on certain items.

Officials will spend the next few days hammering out details and present a final agreement to the eurozone leaders on Thursday morning.
