Delegates from across the world are meeting in Lima, Peru, to work towards a global deal on climate chage.

Giovanni La Via is an Italian MEP and the head of the European Parliament’s environmental committee.

He joined euronews from the Peruvian capital to explain what was at stake.

In an interview with Margherita Sforza, La Via said that “poorer countries are asking more commitments to support their economies in order to fight against climate change.”

But he added: “To consider Brazil, Mexico, China, or India as less developed countries is not possible anymore. We are seeking an intermediate solution, so that it shouldn’t be any more the richer countries helping (the likes of) China in this process.”
