The entry of Promptly Health into the Latin American market was confirmed on Thursday, after the Portuguese company, which specialises in building federated health data platforms, announced the integration of Hapvida NotreDame Intermédica, one of the largest healthcare groups in Latin America.

The deal makes it possible to integrate the Brazilian market, which in practice means that data on more than 16 million beneficiaries will become accessible through the platform.

At present, the company explains, the technology allows hospitals and health systems to share knowledge and information without transferring sensitive clinical data. In this way, researchers and authorised organisations can gain access to clinical information securely and in line with regulations, without institutions such as hospitals and other healthcare units losing control over the data they generate.

With the integration of the Brazilian market, the Portuguese company will cover more than 70 million people, based in various healthcare institutions in different European countries and now in Brazil.

In a statement, the company says this integration will make it possible to create "one of the world’s most extensive and diverse federated clinical data ecosystems for research and the generation of health evidence."

"With 16 million beneficiaries and a network that covers every region of Brazil, Hapvida brings a depth of real-world clinical knowledge that has, to a large extent, been inaccessible to the global research community," said Pedro Ramos, CEO of Promptly Health.

"Brazil has an extraordinary wealth of clinical data that is still, to a large extent, invisible to the global research community. This partnership with Promptly Health gives us the tools to structure and curate these data, creating a bridge between the day-to-day reality of our hospitals and the evidence that researchers and innovators need," said Rodrigo Sardenberg, a director at Hapvida.

Promptly Health currently connects around 400 hospitals and healthcare organisations in Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and now Brazil, thus contributing to multinational studies and clinical research.

The announcement comes at a time when the European Union is seeking to implement the EEDS Regulation, which aims to establish a common framework for the use and exchange of electronic health data across the bloc. The EEDS Regulation entered into force in March 2025, marking the start of the transition period. The main elements of the regulation will only apply from March 2029.
