The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao is displaying some fifty paintings by Francis Bacon, including works rarely seen in public before, alongside those of Spanish and French masters who influenced his work most. ‘Francis Bacon: From Picasso to Velázquez’ runs until early January.
The third edition of FotoIstanbul is underway featuring works by some 60 photographers from around the world. This year, the focus is on Hungary and the late André Kertész. Running alongside the event are panels and chats with photographers, as well as book signings and outdoor video screenings. FotoIstanbul runs until October 30.
The Villes des Musiques du Monde festival in and around Paris has got underway under the theme ‘Harbours’ – a reminder that cities, just like ports, are places where cultures meet and mix. With a rich programme including fado from Portugal, tango from Buenos Aires and rebetiko from Athens, the festival runs until November 12.
