With 394 MEPs in favour and 206 against Christine Lagarde won the European Parliament approval to lead the European Central Bank.
EU leaders will formalise her appointment at a summit in mid October for an eight-year term.
At the Economic Committee hearing she said "Primary mandate is price stability, of course. But it has to be embedded that climate change and environmental risk are mission-critical."
