Google appeals record European Commission fine.

Internet giant Google is appealing against a record 2.4 billion euro fine the European Commission handed down in June, 2017.

It was ruled that the tech company had abused its power by putting its own shopping comparison service at the top of the Google search engine.

The company was given until September 28 to end the so-called anti competitive practices, otherwise it would be handed another fine the equivalent of five percent of its parent company Alphabet’s average daily global earning.

Speaking following the June ruling, the EU’s Competition Commissioner labelled the company’s activity illegal under the Union’s antitrust rules. Google said it “respectfully disagreed.”
