With just 2% arable land, intense heat and scarce rainfall limiting local agriculture, Qatar didn’t have much choice but to rely on imports to feed its population. Or so it thought. When supply chains were disrupted during the blockade imposed on the tiny gulf nation in 2017, self-sufficiency became necessary for Qatar’s survival. Guided by the National Food Security Strategy 2024–2030, Qatar has begun to produce.
