Conservation non-profit the Global Humane Society has opened the call for applications for the Wolfgang Kiessling International Species Conservation Award, which aims to protect and conserve the planet's extraordinary animal species.
The Kiessling Prize, now in its fifth year, recognises scientists and leaders whose work has made a measurable, lasting impact on the conservation of species and biodiversity. The award is named in honour of German-born conservationist Wolfgang F. Kiessling and recipients receive a scholarship to continue their work to advance species conservation.
'Wildlife conservation is more important than ever'
"At a critical time, when the world is in the midst of its sixth mass extinction and up to a million species could be at risk, wildlife conservation is more important than ever," said the Global Humane Society in a statement. The nearly 150-year-old US-based NGO is involved in the rescue, care and protection of animals worldwide, supporting the conservation of endangered species.
"We look forward to receiving nominations for the next Wolfgang Kiessling International Species Conservation Award and to continuing to honour Wolfgang Kiessling's legacy through this award," said Robin Ganzert, president and CEO of Global Humane Society. "This award honours inspiring conservationists around the world who are doing heroic work to protect our planet and its diverse wildlife."
