Updated:

Strong winds and torrential rain over the two days have triggered severe flooding across Romania, displacing hundreds and damaging homes, crops and infrastructure.

Authorities say hundreds of people have been evacuated from central and northeastern regions, including Covasna, Brașov and Botoșani counties.

In Borșneu village, floodwaters engulfed homes and a factory, leaving residents stranded and seeking shelter in a school sports hall.

In Praid, central Romania, rising waters threatened a historic salt mine visited by hundreds of thousands each year.

Officials warn that more rainfall is expected, with 27 counties under yellow alerts. Red flood warnings remain in place in the worst-hit areas as ageing dams struggle to contain swollen rivers.
