This year’s Oscars nominations have been revealed and it's good news for the company that brings the silver screen to your laptop.

Netflix’s story of a live-in housekeeper in 1970s Mexico surged to the top of this year’s nominees list with ten nods – with its lead Yalitza Aparicio nominated in the Best Actress category.

Roma also took a nod for Best Picture which is a first for Netflix, the company that released the film.

Period comedy The Favourite matched Roma with 10 nominations including Best Picture and Best Actress for Olivia Colman. Colman has been on a meteoric rise ever since her days in the cult British TV comedy Peep Show. Cementing herself as royalty not just in Hollywood through the majestic ‘The Favourite’ where she plays early 18th Century English monarch Queen Anne – but it also comes ahead of her taking over the role of Queen Elizabeth from Claire Foy in Netflix’s TV drama The Crown.

A Star Is Born also made the cut for Best Picture – as well as a Best Actress nod for Lady Gaga.

Marvel's Black Panther is among 5 other films in the Best Picture field which is also a first for a superhero film.

It's joined by Blackkklansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book and Vice.

After three decades in the film-industry, Spike Lee took a Best Director nod for the afore mentioned Blackkklansman. Presented with an honorary award in 2015 – it is the first time Lee has been nominated for a specific film title.
