US Tennis Open - the latest

Roger Federer was made to work hard to reach the second round of the US Open, needing five sets to get past American teenager Frances Tiafoe. Heavy rain largely washed out the day’s play at New York’s Flushing Meadow but the Swiss Maestro was playing under the roof of the Arthur Ashe court for the first time in sixteen years.

Rafael Nadal is also into round 2 after seeing off Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic in straight sets. The world number one will meet either Taro Daniel or Tommy Paul in his next match.
