At least six people have been killed and 20 others wounded after a car bomb attack in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, with police expecting the death toll to rise

The bomb went off near Waberi police station on the busy Maka al Mukaram road amid a traffic jam while soldiers were searching cars at a nearby intersection

Witness said the blast was followed by big clouds of smoke visible in sky.

Most of the victims were pedestrians while others were out shopping.

Earlier, photographs taken by Reuters showed three destroyed cars on the road, with two still burning.

The exact target and who was responsible for the blast remains unclear.
