Footage has emerged of the famous Iraqi mosque that was blown up last week by ISIL.
The aerial pictures (see below) show what’s left of the al-Nouri mosque and the smouldering remains of nearby buildings.
The mosque’s site in Mosul is hugely symbolic – it was from here that ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared the creation of a new “caliphate” in 2014.
Iraqi forces have now captured the area around the mosque, part of a wider operation to retake the city.
