The migration flows from Turkey to Greece were dramatically reduced after the EU- Turkey deal signed, local Greek officials said on Tuesday.

But there are still thousands of migrants on five islands in the eastern Aegean sea, including Chios and Kos.

Mayors from the islands say they are struggling to cope.

Migratory flows have been reduced to a minimum of what it was in 2015, said Manolis Vournous, the mayor of Chios.

“The consequences are disastrous financially and socially,” he said.

“That’s why this agreement is working for the EU, probably for Turkey but not for the local communities.”

Officials were in Brussels to press EU member states and the Commission to do more.
