Defending overall world cup champion Peter Prevc and Maciej Kot tied for first place at a ski jumping World Cup competition in Sapporo, Japan on Saturday.

Polish jumper Kot produced jumps of 139m and 138m to end the event with a total score of 260.2 points.

It was his first individual victory on the elite circuit.

But he had to share top honours with Slovenian Prevc.

Prevc amassed 15 victories en-route to the overall World Cup crown last season but so far has endured a frustrating campaign with his best finish a third place in the opening leg in Finland in November.

But he returned to the winners circle in Japan, when he produced the longest jump of the day at 143 metres and then followed that up with a second effort of 134m.

Poland’s Kamil Stoch retained the overall World Cup lead despite an 18th place finish on the day.

He is 91 points clear of Norway’s Daniel Andre Tande who was seventh in Sapporo while winner of the previous two outings Stefan Kraft of Austria is third overall nine points further adrift.
