Turkey said Greece was protecting plotters and failing in the fight against terrorism on Thursday after the Supreme Court in Athens ruled against extraditing eight Turkish soldiers wanted over last July’s attempted coup.

Ankara has now issued arrest warrants for the men who flew a military helicopter to Greece a day after the coup attempt, seeking political asylum and saying they feared for their lives.

They deny any involvement in trying to oust President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has since led a purge of the military and civil service.
