The MEP's letter asks Eurogroup chief to contribute to the completion of the second review, so that debt talks will commence.
EU officials agree that “a lot of progress” has been made on the second review of Greece’s eurozone bailout and, as the EU Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis said in a news conference in Brussels on Monday, “we can expect in the foreseeable future that we will be able to close the second review”.
These messages signal that debt relief talks are going to open as soon as the next Eurogroup meeting on Monday 5th of December, which is supposed to be a benchmark for Greece’s next steps.
However, it’s not still clear what this means, as the balance is not easy.
IMF hasn’t decided whether it will participate in the programme or not, as the gap with the EU Institutions over the mixture of policies Greece needs in order to recover and the extent of the necessary debt relief is still huge.
In this context, nine MEP’s from the Socialists and Democrats (S&D), the Greens and the European Left (GUE/NGL) wrote an open letter to the head of the Eurogroup Jeroen Dijsselbloem to ask him to facilitate negotiations over a successful conclusion of the second review and debt relief talks.

The MEP’s are stressing that “the sustainability of the Greek debt is of the utmost importance for the long- term stability of the Greek economy as well as the market access that the country has to regain”.
They are also reminding Mr. Dijsselbloem that this was a commitment made by all parties back in May 2016 as clearly phrased in the Eurogroup statement.
