Euronews reporter Omer Gulel was travelling home to Istanbul when the attack at Ataturk airport happened.

He was kept on board the aircraft for five hours after landing as the authorities brought the situation under control.

He described his experience:“We landed at Ataturk airport around 40 minutes late that was lucky because if the plane had landed on time then we could have been in the area where the attack took place.
What struck me most about the atmosphere inside the plane was the reaction of the passengers. No one appeared to be too concerned or astonished. The people seemed to be getting used to this kind of violence and that was the thing that disturbed me most.”
