Afghanistan went out of this year’s ICC World Twenty20 with a bang after they stunned 2012 champions West Indies in their final group 1 match in Nagpur, India.

Batting first, Afghanistan set the target of 123-7 with Najib Zadran hitting a fine unbeaten 48 in this dead rubber.

West Indies won their opening three matches of the Super ten stage and even rested star batsman Chris Gayle for this game.

They lost three wickets for 79 but had slumped to 117-8 by the time their 20 overs were up.

Although they were already eliminated from the tournament, Afghanistan’s deserved six run victory was a first success over a major Test playing nation at an ICC event.

Despite the defeat, West Indies go through to a semi-final tie with either Australia or India – the other semi pitts England against New Zealand.
