Mario Goetze scored twice to help Germany beat Poland 3-1 in Group D of the euro qualifiers.

Thomas Mueller scored the other for the new group leaders who go two points clear of their Friday night opponents.

Elsewhere Ireland thrashed Gibraltar 4-0 while Scotland lost to in Georgia leaving their qualification hopes in tatters.

In Group F Northern Ireland continued their fine campaign beating the Faroe Islands 3-1.

They move one point clear of second placed Romania who drew 0-0 with Hungary. Finland meanwhile downed 2004 champions Greece 1-0

Denmark and Albania missed the chance to leapfrog Portugal at the top of Group I after a goalless stalemate – Portugal were not in action on the night.

Serbia beat Armenia 2-0 but stand on one point after being docked three points for their abandoned home match last October.
