The door is open to discussions but Paris and Berlin expect credible and serious proposals from Greece – with time running out to find a bailout

The door is open to discussions but Paris and Berlin expect credible
and serious proposals from Greece – with time running out to find a bailout deal.

That was the message as French President Francois Hollande hosted German leader Angela Merkel for urgent talks after the Greek people voted to reject the austerity terms offered by international creditors.

The leaders spoke of European solidarity. Chancellor Merkel said a lot of that had already been extended to Greece and that the last bailout offer was very generous.

Both are waiting to hear what new propositions will be put forward by Athens at Tuesday’s emergency meeting of euro zone finance ministers.

But Merkel stressed that the views of all members of the single currency must be taken into account.
