A record breaking Grand Depart at the 2015 Tour de France
The Lycra lads set off on a 13.8km individual time-trial around the Dutch city of Utrecht and the Australian Rohan Dennis, riding for BMC. completed the route in 14 minutes and 56 seconds at an average speed of 55.446 km/hr, the fastest ever.

Dennis beat the German Tony Martin, a time trial specialist, by five seconds. Martin will wear the yellow jersey for stage 2 the 166km sprint that takes in the winds along Dutch coast.

In third place Fabien Cancellara, the Swiss, Trek rider, six seconds off the winner.

Of the main GC contenders defending champion, Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali, came home seven seconds ahead of rival, Sky’s Chris Froome and 15 seconds clear of Alberto Contador.
