America’s Eli Dershwitz kept his composure to take gold in the sabre discipline at the Cadet and Junior World Championships in Tashkent on Tuesday.

Dershwitz, who was the youngest member of the US national team in 2013 at 17 years of age, proved too strong for Francesco Bonsanto of Italy in the final, eventually winning through 15-8.

In the women’s event, France’s Coraline Vitalis outclassed Yuliya Svystil of Ukraine in the semi-finals and carried her momentum into the showpiece match with a convincing win over Nadine Stahlberg.

The 19-year-old looked in great shape and dominated
her German opponent from the outset, final score there 15-6.
