Filmmaker Roman Polanski has testified at a hearing in Poland about a US extradition request over a child sex crime conviction. The court said it needed more time to consider documents submitted by Polanski’s lawyers before making a decision.

The Oscar-winning 81-year-old pleaded guilty in 1977 to having unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl during a photoshoot in Los Angeles fuelled by champagne and drugs.

Under Polish law, if the court rules in favour of the extradition request, it will then be passed onto the justice minister who will make the final decision on whether to hand over Polanski to the US authorities.

He was the subject of unsuccessful extradition proceedings in Switzerland in 2010.
