Romanians mark 25 years since start of anti-Communist revolution

Romanians have been marking 25 years since the overthrow of Ceausescu’s Communist regime which left more than 1000 people dead.

In the city of Timisoara where the uprising began on 17 December 1989, people lit candles and laid wreaths of flowers to remember those shot dead by the army.
