Britain’s Lewis Hamilton produced yet another flawless run to claim his second drivers’ world championship with a convincing victory in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The 29-year-old, who needed a top-two finish to guarantee the title, took control off the line, surging past Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg who endured a disappointing day.
The German driver had started on pole but suffered a number of technical problems which slowed him down considerably.
With his sole title rival out of contention, Hamilton kept his composure and overcame a late surge from Brazil’s Felipe Massa to join Formula 1’s illustrious ranks of double World Champions while Mercedes secured a record 16 wins in a single season.
