Colombian army General Ruben Dario Alzate, an other officer and a civilian are being held by FARC rebels. The group confirmed on Tuesday it abducted the men and said in a statement the three were captured carrying out their duties in a war zone.

The rebels also urged the government to return to peace talks after Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos suspended them on Sunday.
