French chef Raymond Blanc has caused an angry online response after criticising the finalist of a UK television cooking show.

Blanc tore into a finalist of BBC programme the Great British Bake Off, saying she was “so thin” it “makes me doubt of her love for great cooking, baking.”

And his criticisms have seemingly revealed the winner of the pre-recorded show, set to be broadcast on October 22.

Ruby Tandoh tweeted: “Female tears?! And what has anyone’s size got to do with it? I don’t care if you’re a patisserie king – don’t be an idiot.”

Blanc, who also had some support for his comments, later apologised, saying his language skills were to blame for the tweet.

the great British bake off. Not much skills, female tears , And a winner so thin who makes me doubt of her love for great cooking, baking

Ok, sorry guys, I was a grumpy Frenchman this morning. I don't know who has won #GBBO, but can't wait to find out…
