Colombia’s president said his country’s FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) rebel group is prepared to return to the battlefield if peace negotiations fail.

Juan Manuel Santos has promised Colombians a referendum on a pending peace deal between the rebels and the government.

Peace negotiations have been ongoing for more than three years.

Last month the government agreed a plan to reintegrate child soldiers from FARC into society.

A March deadline for ending five decades of armed conflict was missed because disagreements remained.

The fighting has cost the lives of 220,000 people and displaced millions.
