There were clashes with police on Sunday evening in the southeastern town of Cizre where pro-PKK protesters attempted to keep Turkish security forces out of their neighbourhood by putting up barricades and digging trenches.

Riot police used tear gas and armoured vehicles to break up the crowd who responded with petrol bombs.

A bulldozer was set alight during the clashes.

On Sunday morning a car bomb attack on a police station in Istanbul injured ten people – three police officers and seven civilians.

It happened in the Sultanbeyli district.

The blast started a fire that caused part of the three-storey building to collapse.

The bomber is reported to have been killed but by Sunday night no group had admitted carrying out the attack.
