The influential Italian journalist and politician Giulietto Chiesa has been arrested in Estonia according to his family.
Chiesa was in Tallin to attend a conference but has been detained in his hotel room without phone or internet. A warrant to expel him from the county has apparently been issued.
The EU is demanding an explanation.
Chiesa was for several years based in the former Soviet Union as a correspondent and has been out spoken against US policy against Moscow.
