Video. Final passengers disembark hantavirus-hit cruise ship in Tenerife

The final passengers aboard the hantavirus-hit cruise ship MV Hondius disembarked in Tenerife before boarding flights to quarantine facilities in more than 20 countries.

The last remaining passengers aboard the hantavirus-hit cruise ship MV Hondius disembarked in Tenerife on Monday as evacuation operations came to an end.

Footage showed passengers wearing masks and protective gear leaving the ship with personal belongings before boarding buses bound for the airport.

Medical staff and emergency personnel supervised the operation at the port while Guardia Civil boats escorted the vessel.

Authorities said passengers were due to travel to more than 20 countries to begin quarantine.

According to the World Health Organization, three passengers have died and several confirmed or suspected hantavirus cases remain under medical monitoring.
