Located between Hakkari’s Yüksekova district and Van’s Başkale district, the mountain now echoes with the sounds of water, animals and traditional dances, as local communities return to its plateaus. Once largely abandoned, the area now supports around 40,000 sheep.
The mountain, one of three ultra-prominent peaks in the region, had seen reduced activity due to conflict.
With increased stability, residents are reviving traditional practices, including seasonal migrations and the ‘Hoze’ ritual, which separates lambs from their mothers.
