Tens of thousands of people took part in anti-abortion march in Dublin City centre on Saturday March 10th.
They were demonstrating in favour of keeping the 8th amendment of the Irish constitution which protects the right to life of the unborn.
A referendum is to be held later this year asking voters whether it should be removed from the constitution.
The Save The Eighth campaign had predicted it would be the biggest event in the referendum. It attracted people from all over the country and some from overseas.
A number of different religious groups were represented. Campaigners are focussing on the rights of people with disabilities claiming that 90% of pregnancies diagnosed with Down syndrome in Britain end in abortion.
Spokesperson Niamh Ní Bhriain, a Down Syndrome activist who has addressed the United Nations on the issue, said the aim of the protest is to say no to abortion in Ireland. She said the law proposed by the government would be even more liberal than Britain.
However, the repeal group Together for Yes said it wanted to highlight the plight of the nine women travelling from Ireland to Britain for an abortion today.
