Tease of the S25 Edge

Blink and you might have missed it but there was a sneaky tease of Samsung's S25 Edge towards the end of the event.

That was not one of the models Euronews Next were lucky enough to have an in-person look at before the Unpacked event. In truth, there is very little known for sure about it, except that it is ultrathin. It's also not the first time Samsung have dangled the name...

AI transparency

It's interesting that there is a push for greater transparency and responsible use of AI when it comes to content. There was talk on stage in the presentation by Jay Kim, head of customer experience, about AI agents on the S25 series incorporating watermarks on AI content, as well as mentions in an image's metadata that it was produced using AI. "Intellectual property should be protected," Kim says.

Pitch to content creators

If the Galaxy S25 appeals to anyone in particular, it's probably content creators, and for a plethora of reasons.

On stage, Samsung's Rachel Roberts unpacked the devices' camera and editing capabilities.

The new 'virtual aperture' is a standout feature, allowing users to change the depth of field on the fly. It's also integrated with the Expert RAW app from the Google Store, which allow you to edit in RAW formats on your device.

That's not to forget a new range of filters, including the ability to create your own.

The camera spec slightly outperforms Apple with the S25 Ultra boasting a 50MP ultrawide camera versus the latest iPhone 16 Pro's 48MP equivalent.

New and improved Circle Search

Although it's not new, the Circle Search function has been enhanced to include many more capabilities in the Galaxy S25 family. It's arguably one of the more useful AI features that Samsung say most users make use of most if not every day.

As well as using the function to make calls and emails by circling phone numbers and emails, finding addresses on Google Maps and so on, you can now use it on audio, for instance, finding out what song is playing in a film you're watching on your device. Pretty nifty.

More personalised AI experience

So what have we heard so far?

The big takeaway is the improvements to Samsung's artificial intelligence (AI) features, including the Circle Search feature, which is arguably something that is likely to be used widely on devices. We'll get to that in a minute.

Two new features of note are the Now Brief and Now Bar functions which are designed to give users a more personalised experience and give you news and updates throughout your day.

Now Brief, for instance, will be able to collate your travel plans, sharing your schedule with you in the morning, give live traffic updates and so on. If you have a Samsung ring, it could tell you how well you've slept and if you were snoring.
